>How do I determine a reasonable pay rate to transport my car? Determining a pay rate may seem difficult, but in reality, it is fairly simple. There is no exact formula or set rates, and average prices can change due to economic conditions and the time of the year, however with a little bit of thinking and some simple math, you can determine a price that will be both attractive to carriers and affordable for you. There are a number of factors to consider when shipping your car. The value of the vehicle, route, distance, trailer type, how urgently the car needs to be moved, origin/destination location and, of course, your budget all need to be considered. Generally speaking, 30 to 45 cents a mile is a typical rate for open trailer transport. 60 to 75 cents per mile is typical for enclosed trans-port. Inoperable vehicles generally ship on open trailers First start with the base rate of.35 per mile
Consider vehicle size - Enter.03 to.05 for vans, large pickups, SUV's etc, Enter -.02 to.03 for compact cars. (Be sure to enter a negative sign (-) to subtract for compact cars, this field is set to automatically add.)
Consider your vehicles valueEnter.05 to.10 here if your vehicle is worth more than around $20,000 - The amount you add should be proportionate to vehicle value.
Urgency - How fast do you need to need your car to be moved? The more you are willing to pay the carrier, the more likely it is going to be picked up from the load board by a carrier quickly. The more you add here, the faster your car will be picked up. On the other hand, if you are on a tight budget and are not in a hurry to move your car, you can subtract from your rate - but if you go too low, your car may not be moved at all. Enter + or - a few cents here as needed.
Mileage - Find your mileage. RATE YOU GOT PER MILE X MILAGE = WHAT YOU SHOULD PAY.
